January 11, 2008

So the market goes up today. India and the airlines moved up. The shorts and ultra shorts obviously got hit today. But sectors that have been dormant woke up. Don’t get excited about airlines unless you make it into a quick trade. Foriegn ETFs seem to be gaining the big “mo”. Check out the list below. Ok. Earnings season is upon us and the market becomes more volatile. Careful.

The market popped today like a bottle of Cold Duck, extra dry. Actually, it was more like a dribble of touthpaste. Lets see several follow through days before we see a recovery.
The same suspects continued their march. China and Brazil ETFs moved up today. Some of the talking heads suggeted that these emerging markets are not corrolated to the US economy. Let’s see if these ETFs continue to move up.

Below is the result of today’s action.

Fear seems to continue to fuel the big boys and girls. All the short and ultra short ETFs were up today. Way up. Some ultra short ETFs were up as much as 7%! Gold came back with vigor today. The GLD climbed over 3%. Most of the medical ETFs showed green all day. India continues to move up.

By the way, the UltraHappy Elephant photo represents joy for those who bought these ETFs or shorted stocks.

Today’s list (correction the list should read January 8 not January 4.

Fourth post: Better, I think

pills

The short and ultrashort ETFs have done terrific. Utilities continue to move up. Today healthcare began to move up including biotech. Gold moved up last week with much strength but has been coming back down. India was strong today, but all of the major U.S. markets are testing their recent lows. Will the big guys draw the line here or are we at the top of the roller coaster ride? The sector action indicate to me a search for safety.
